Profile & Achievements
|
![]() I adapt well to new technologies and would like to think of myself as a friendly person to work with. I have constructed working Local Area Networks (LAN) both for small businesses and individuals; several of which I maintain on a pay-per-incident basis. I am fully conversant with a large number of networking technologies; to name a few, Novell NetWare, any Microsoft LAN Manager based product (including Windows NT), IBM OS/2 Warp Server and of course Lantastic. However, my preferred networking platform is UNIX where I have four years hands-on experience in administering and maintaining various UNIX derivatives in general. To complement this experience, I have spent the past two years running my own business (Spilsby Internet Solutions; http://www.spilsby.net/); a company providing quality website hosting and server co-location. This has helped me understand several key Internet issues such as unsolicited commercial e-mail, domain name disputes, international copyright laws, etc, etc. Although I maintain and run this service in my spare time, I feel it is an enjoyable and productive way to exercise my talents. Specializing in UNIX development; I have contributed a great deal of technical knowledge and bug fixes to the Linux project; a free UNIX clone which has recently been promoted in the U.K. computer press as an alternative to Microsoft desktop software systems. I am fully qualified to administer and maintain Red Hat Linux systems; I am currently working towards becoming a member of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and hope to attain this certification by mid-2001.
Although my forté is with the technical aspects of computer hardware/software and their implementation, I have trained several people in the black art of using a computer efficiently; I have helped various family members and friends with I.T. problems, offered advice, and explained computer terminology in a way which was both clear and concise. |
